Little Miss' Bedroom

It’s been over a year since we prepared Little Miss’ bedroom and I can’t believe I haven’t shared the “makeover” on the blog! So today I bring you Little Miss’ Bedroom!

Previously it was used as a spare room. It had an IKEA Malm Bed and Dresser in there. The carpet and walls were green as it was leftovers from the previous owners.

Kritter Bed

We got rid of the bed and repainted the walls – just to freshen it up really so the green is pretty much the same green. We’ve kept the carpet as it was in pretty good condition – until hubby spilt paint on it! But thankfully it was green paint and so you can’t tell!

IKEA Furniture

After we got rid of he Malm Bed and Dresser and replaced them with the IKEA Kritter bed. Also in the room is a whole lot of STUVA storage including the desk, wardrobe and bookshelf.

STUVA Wardrobe

STUVA desk

Also from IKEA is this wonderful toy storage. I love them! Unfortunately I can’t hang it from the ceiling so it’s behind the door. Also from this photo you can see part of the farmyard murual we have on the wall. How cool is it?

Farm Murual & Toy Storage

Bedding

For the bedding we wanted to keep the farmyard theme. You can buy this Apple Tree farm bedding from Childrens-Rooms.co.uk. You can also find matching curtains (See the photo of the wardrobe above).

Apple Tree Farm

I just love her bookcase! Especially when it’s all tidy like this…. and of course we have to have some Peppa, Frozen and Paw Patrol by her bed!

What do you think of Little Miss’ bedroom?

An Open Letter to EE

Dear Kevin Bacon EE,

I am writing to you today to explain my frustrations with your shit mobile phone signal in North Wales.

KEVIN BACON

Before I launch into a tirade of rants, I will admit, I thoroughly enjoy the Kevin Bacon adverts… I love seeing him back on the screen (especially in that astronaut costume!). However, I can’t help be rather pissed off when he tells me you have 4G! Oh my word 4G what a dream!

3G COVERAGE

To be fair, you do provide 3G coverage and even can pick up 4G on occasions. However my gripe today is not with the data coverage but it’s in relation to the simple reason we all had mobile phones in the first place – a simple phonecall.

PHONECALLS AND TRAVELLING

I am so fed up of your shit mobile phone signal. Completely fed up of not being able to pick up mobile phone reception – not data, just the ability to do a phonecall. As you can see from my map, coverage per your coverage map is good. If that is the case, why CAN’T I FUCKING PHONE?!

You see, I do a fair bit of commuting to and from work. I travel approx 40miles a day – I attach a handy map for reference.

EE coverage

EE Coverage Map which shows there’s coverage all over North Wales

Google Maps

My Map – blue being where I can normally get mobile phone signal and hold a conversation. The ORANGE bis is where it either drops out completely or is so patchy that it’s impossible to actually hold a conversation!*

* actually the signal has been even worse than this over the past three days. But usually this is as good as it gets.

OTHER PEOPLE ARE FED UP TOO

I understand you have come under a lot of critiscsm lately and in all fairness, it was called for. I wish to thank the lady that chained herself to the Bangor store for bringing your shit mobile phone signal to your attention and I’m hoping now you will stop treating your North Wales customers as second class citizens. We pay the same amount for contracts as people in major cities yet we don’t get a decent service from you.

Oh and when I went to one of your stores to discuss my mobile phone was being blamed and that if I could travel by sea I should be able to pick up signal. I mean WTF?!

(As an update, see this Daily Post article about the response from Giff Gaff in relation to the padlocked woman!)

So tell me, what are you going to do EE?

And how about you my lovely readers, do you suffer with rubbish phone signal?

#FridayFrivolity

How is it Friday again already?! So that means it’s time for another Friday Frivolity linky party! Today’s theme for the hosts is Funny Babies! Which is awesome because I have two of them!

My Funny Babies

My eldest – Little Miss – loves to watch YouTube. She finds random videos on YouTube of people playing with toys. For example, she loves watching the FuzzyToyShow Channel. Personally I find it annoying but she finds it funny. She sits there watching it and all I hear are giggles!

Anyway, things they do that make me laugh:

  1. Tickle tickle – nothing better than watching Little Miss play with her little sister She’ll announce “tickle tickle!” and proceed to lunge at MissMostyn which then involves a lot of giggling.
  2. Baby giggles – nothing better than baby giggles!
  3. Random phrases – Little Miss is a talker now so she copies everything we say. Thankfully she’s not picked up on any swear words but we’ve had all the Paw Patrol phrases and this week we’ve had “Here’s Rocky! He’s super cute!” <- this one is something she picked up whilst watching YouTube
  4. Miss Mostyn’s proud as punch face – my littlest has a thing about changing the TV channel. She’ll change the channel and then look at you with a big smile on her face and her little scrunched up nose!

OK so maybe this is more of a cute babies rather than funny babies! So in honour of funny babies, here’s a funny baby meme or two. They’re mostly potty training related since we’re doing that at the moment.

You Will Never Sleep Again

Welsh Slate Museum

The Amgueddfa Lechi Cymru (Welsh Slate Museum) is located in Llanberis and as the name suggests it’s a museum about slate… Welsh slate. Given my love of Welsh slate, this place feels like home. And in all honesty, you can’t blame me for feeling at home when I visit because these houses – the quarrymen cottages – were taken from my hometown.

Entrance and Courtyard

As you walk in through the archway you’re reminded of how dangerous quarries were with framed Danger Notices and copies of the Workmen’s Compensation Acts.

Historical signs at the Welsh Slate Museum

In the courtyard that follows, there are a lot of old slateworks items such as trains and carts etc. Being a fan of Thomas the Tank, Little Miss of course absolutely loves the trains! We have a fantastic photo of her stood in one of the “troublesome trucks” (as she called it).

Exhibitions

Along the sides of the Courtyard there are numerous rooms which hold different exhibitions. One exhibition currently there, is the World War Exhibition which details the impact of the War on Welsh mining communities.

In another is an exhibition and video about the life and times of a Welsh quarryman. And in that room there is also a number of aerial photos of the Welsh quarries including a scale model of the Blaenau Ffestiniog area. I stood there looking at it for quite some time and couldn’t quite place what was wrong with it. It was clearly Blaenau but it just wasn’t quite right to me.

Cafe and Playground

From there you walk through to another area beyond the courtyard where the cafe, play area and the quarrymen cottages are located. The cafe serves the usual foods and we had a nice soup and an afternoon tea (scone, clotted cream and jam).

The children’s playground is also located by the quarrymen cottages. Natural, Little Miss had a go at the slides. She has no fear!

The Sound Of Slate

Not far from the playground and cafe is the big water wheel. We didn’t go to see that on this occasion but it is fully accessible with a pram or wheelchair (i.e. there’s a lift!). Instead we went to see “The Sound of Slate” installation by Jay Harrison. It was amazing!! Open this image fully to see the description or alternatively, have a peek at the short video that follows.

Yes! I got to see the musical slate installation at @amgueddfalechi #welshslate

Old Workshops

Moving on from here, you walk through old workshops which house a plethora of old tools including a number of these sturdy vices.

In another room off the Courtyard you can find one of the little steam engines on display. I’m not sure if this one is used on the railway that goes by the Welsh Slate Museum.

As you can see, there is plenty to see at the Welsh Slate Museum. Be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook and Twitter accounts to see about any upcoming events. Unfortunately The Sound of Slate has now finished otherwise I would definitely recommend it.

Opening Times and More Information

The Museum is open daily from 10am to 5pm (10am to 4pm Nov-Easter) and is FREE entry.

I hope I’ve convinced you that you ought to visit the Welsh Slate Museum! I enjoyed our visit and hope to go back soon!

Have you ever been to the Welsh Slate Museum? What did you think?
