6 Week Growth Spurt

The last couple of days have been a bit tough on Little Miss and us. She was 6 weeks old on Friday and she’s been cranky since around Thursday. I’ve been discussing this with girls on Facebook and apparently it’s quite normal for babies to get cranky around now as they normally experience a growth spurt at around 6 weeks. It should last a couple of days so here’s hoping!

To be fair though she has had a tiring couple of days.

We took Little Miss to my office to say hello to everyone. I was there for about 2 hours and she slept pretty much the whole time we were there. She woke up just as we were leaving. It was so nice to go back to work to see everyone. I had a catchup with my colleagues and had a chat with the bosses. One of the guys at work had a cuddle with her – his wife is expecting their first. He’s the same age as me and we’ve been through similar stuff at the same time. He got married 4 weeks before me and his grandmother died a week or so before my Taid died, and now he’ll be a daddy within 6 months of me becoming a mammy!

We then went over to the sweetie shop because the owner wanted to see Little Miss. When I say sweetie shop I should note that it’s actually a gift shop where they sell some beautiful stuff. I call it sweetie shop because I go over there every lunchtime to buy sweets and have a chat. The owner gave her a little prezzie – these pair of baby shoes!

Around 6pm on Thursday Little Miss started getting cranky. She cried on and off until around 9pm. I put it down to the fact that she has been to the office and was overstimulated and maybe overtired.

At 5.30am I got a text message from one of my best friends to say that she’d given birth to a baby boy at 12.30 on Thursday! We didn’t know she was expecting a boy but good news for Little Miss – she’s only 6 weeks but we’re already planning an arranged marriage for her!! (I’m only joking – don’t believe in arranged marriages).

I had my 6 week postnatal check with the nurse. Everything is fine and I should be allowed to drive again now. I just need to phone the insurance company to check. After the doctors I popped into Asda to get my friend’s boy a little gift. Asda has some gorgeous baby clothes and they are very reasonable.

When hubby arrived home, Little Miss and I were standing in the window looking out at the world (in fact I was trying to burp her and got bored of watching tv!). He walked out of the car with the most beautiful bouquet of flowers! No real reason but partly to say sorry for not being very helpful that morning. To be fair he didn’t need to apologise as I had been a bit crankier than usual with him due to lack of sleep.

At around 6pm Little Miss started crying again and again was crankypants until around 9pm. Poor thing!

Hubby was supposed to be going to go to see his friends for the day which meant he’d leave us first thing in the morning and wouldn’t be back until late.

I was feeling tired and emotional when I got up and I tried my best to keep it in so I wouldn’t spoil his day but in the end I couldn’t. He decided not to go which made me feel even worse and I ended up crying even more!

Little Miss was fine during the day which meant both hubby and I caught up on some sleep. She did turn into devil child around 6pm again!

The three of us went over to the in laws for Sunday lunch. It was the first time Little Miss had visited but she seemed ok there on the whole. After a lovely lunch we watched some rugby on the telly and Little Miss fell asleep in hubby’s arms. We went to Tesco to do some shopping and then went home. Little Miss got cranky again but we managed to settle her for a while in her Moses basket.

Hubby spoke to his friend and found out that he can’t make it to the christening. His friend was supposed to be a godparent but looks like he won’t be now. We’ve already rearranged the christening once and if we ave to rearrange again then the christening will have to be pushed back to June.

So this weekend has been fun and games! How was your weekend?

Awww what a wonderful and understanding husband you have 🙂

It sounds like you had quite an eventful week last week, so I’m sure a cranky baby only made your lack of sleep even more difficult. I hope her growing spurt ends soon.

And how awesome that a coworker around the same age can relate to many life circumstances to you (I’m sorry about your grandparent :(! ), I’m sure they’ll be thankful for any advice you can give them as new parents. Do you go back to work at 8 weeks (that’s the USA ‘standard’) or do you get to choose when you go back?

I hope you and hubby have a better week, with more sleep!

Yeah he’s too good to me!

She’s been better today so maybe the growth spurt is over already! My mam said she’s grown since she saw her on Thursday!

Yeah he’s a great guy as well! I shared a room with him for a few years and we get on well. He’s taken on some of my workload whilst I’m on maternity leave. I the UK you can take a whole year off – 6 weeks at 90% normal pay, 33 weeks at maternity rate as set by the government (currently £136 per week) and then 13 weeks with no pay. Most mothers go back early because of the money issue. I’m taking 6 months off and then I’ve passed on the rest of the leave to hubby so he’ll have the final 6 months off. It’ll be nice for him to have the exclusive time with her. 🙂

My godson’s christening ended up not taking place til he was 10 months old with all the people that couldn’t make specific dates!

Those starry baby clothes from ASDA are so cute. I love anything with stars on.

Well I think we’ve settled on the date now – so far only one person can’t make it!
