Media Monday – Nashville

Today’s topic is Nashville! Oh wow I love it! I started watching the first series when I was off on maternity an it happened to be one of the box sets Sky TV were promoting.

If you’ve not heard of it I’ll give you a quick guide – warning may contain spoilers!!

Rayna James (Connie Britton) is the older experienced country music star on the scene. Her rival is Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) a younger country star who appeals to the mass teenage girl market.

They are both signed to the same record label, Edgehill who persuade them to go out in tour together. Rayna is hoping for new fans from Juliette’s younger fan base. The label is hoping that Juliette will mature and learn from Rayna’s experience. As you can imagine this doesn’t happen as friction between the two continue.

Add into the mix Rayna’s family – she is from the higher class Belle Meade area and is daughter to Lamar Wyatt (Powers Boothe) owner of the corrupt Wyatt Industries.

Rayna’s husband – Teddy Conrad (Eric Close) – starts off as an ex executive who is currently unemployed who through Wyatt’s help and contacts campaigns to become mayor of Nashville.

Complicating things further is Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) who is Rayna’s ex-lover, guitar player, co-writer and as we eventually find out, father of her first born Maddie (Lennon Stella).

On top of everything you then have Rayna’s record label playing power games with her and in series 2 we are introduced to a new head of the label – Jeff Fordham played by Oliver Hudson (who can do slimy git very well!).

I’ve not even mentioned the other characters – Scarlett O’Connor (Claire Bowen), Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson) and Gunnar Scott (Sam Palladio) – another love triangle to say the least!

As you can imagine, there is a lot of stories going on which I won’t really get into now – all I can say is WATCH IT! It’s well worth it!!
