Day 12. Best Advice I’ve Been Given
The best piece of advice I’ve ever had relates to my career. When I left school after doing my A Levels (including accountancy) I had been accepted to do a course at university. But I’d had enough of studying. Wedi cael llond bol go iawn! In fact the last thing I wanted was to go to university to do even more studying! I had really enjoyed my Accountancy A Level course so I thought I’d like to be an accountant.
The advice I was given is not a soundbyte nor anything deep or meaningful. The advice was not to bother with uni and go get a job instead. I was told that the practical experience of working in an office would be so much more worthwhile.
Spot On Advice
And you know, that advice was spot on! I got a job a week after my exam results and 12 years on, I’m still working for the same firm. I’ve been ever so lucky to have been given the opportunity to work there. Not only did they pay for me to do my ICAEW training to become a Chartered Accountant but they also paid for my CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser) training. They’ve also given me so much practical experience which most definitely is more worthwhile than the time and money I’d have wasted at uni. I work for and work with a great bunch of people and I’m lucky enough to be happy to get up in the morning to go to work.
But the bestest thing ever? It’s thanks to my job and the training course that I met my husband.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
