Career Prospects

Career Prospects - calculator and diary
I’ve previously posted about what my childhood dream job was. I wanted to be a steam train driver.

Careers Advice

This prompt got me thinking more of what the careers advisers said to me. They said I should be a florist or a vet. Wonderful suggestions those considering I have hay fever and pet allergies!!

(I should update this and actually say it wasn’t the careers adviser that told me to become a vet/florist but those silly aptitude tests. No the careers adviser is the one that said I must go to university to ever make something of my life. PAH!)

It also got me thinking back to my teenage years and I now remember saying I wanted to be a politician so I could change the country for the better. How bloody deluded was I?!

Chartered Accountant and Tax Adviser

I love my job and I would like to say that I’m really good at it! I certainly hope that I am! Might not mean much to some but I was included in the 40 Under 40 (2011)* list.

* I believe it was 2011 I actually don’t remember the year!

How about you? What was your dream job and have you ended up doing it?

    How off was your career advisor?! I can’t even remember being given career advice like this. I know people do aptitude tests etc but I can’t remember doing one myself. Florist and vet are two very different vocations with two very different pay scales!

    I always said i wanted to be a musician, and thats what I’m working towards! Careers advisers are always off, mine told me I’d become a primary school teacher. Not likely considering children genuinely terrify me!

    I wanted to be a graphic designer but did what my parents told me… I went to Uni and became a primary school teacher. I have since been made redundant and am now working behind a bar.
