Last Tuesday I woke up with a horrendous chest infection and I couldn’t breathe. All day I was struggling and wheezy. I was puffing at my inhalers constantly all day and if I moved I was struggling. Walking upstairs was killing me – got to the top of the stairs and had to have a sit down to get my breathe back.
(At this point I should point out that I’m asthmatic – I’m not that unfit!)
By 10pm I said to the hubby that I don’t think I can cope anymore and for him to phone 999. The paramedic turned up in a flash (completely smashed the NHS records!). He was so lovely and sorted me out with his oxygen canister.
He said that I wasn’t bad enough to have to be admitted to A&E but that I should go to the out of hours doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics. He sorted me an appointment for 2am(!).
My Mam took me in (hubby had drank a bottle of wine so couldn’t drive me so we called for reinforcements!) and the lovely doctor confirmed I had a chest infection and prescribed me antibiotics and steroids. He told me take the steroids as soon as I got home and by the next morning you couldn’t really tell I had been so bad. I still have a cough but at least I can breathe!
But I want to thank the NHS staff for their help. I don’t think the frontline staff get enough praise. I don’t know what I would’ve done without them!
So thank you NHS staff!
I’m glad you feel better now xx It’s lovely you made this post as a thank you for them.
