I’m co-hosting Friday Frivolity for this month! Bear with me on this because it’s all new to me!
Today’s topic would be PUNS! There’s nothing better than a good pun in my opinion. But what is a pun I hear you ask? It’s a play on words usually in the form of one-liners. An example would be
Exit signs? They’re on the way out! ~ Tim Vine
My boss is good at puns… he normally gets one in on a daily basis. The trouble with puns is that I can never remember them so I can’t give you an example of one he’s said!
But the ultimate master of the pun, the king of the one-liners is Tim Vine. If you’ve not heard of him then you’re missing out. He is hilarious!
I first came across Tim Vine when I saw Not Going Out – a sitcom with Lee Mack. I also love Lee Mack, he’s another good one with the one-liners! Both of them together in that make me laugh so much!
Tim’s so good that he has won the award for the best joke at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 and 2014 and was runner up for years 2011, 2012 and 2013.
He also held the Guinness World Record for the most jokes told in an hour – having told 449 jokes in 60 minutes! That is A LOT of jokes!! Unfortunately someone else snatched that record away from him in November 2014.
One of my favourite Tim Vine one liners has to be this one though:
I was in this restaurant and I asked for something herby. They gave me a Volkswagen with no driver.
If you haven’t seen any of Tim’s stand up I would suggest you have a look at YouTube for some clips and if you still want more then he has a couple of DVDs out.
