Media Monday – Impractical Jokers

This has to be my new favourite show! Here in the UK it’s currently being shown on Comedy Central every weekday.   (Thanks to The Tenderloins management for the photo!)

If you haven’t seen or heard of it it’s a hidden camera show where these four guys – The Tenderloins – dare/challenge each other to do crazy stuff. Wikipedia explains it pretty well….

Impractical Jokers is an American hidden camera-practical jokereality series filmed mainly in New York City and New Jersey that premiered on TruTV on December 15, 2011. It follows Joe Gatto, James Murray, Brian Quinn and Sal Vulcano, the four members of the comedy troupe The Tenderloins as they coerce one another into doing public pranks while being filmed by hidden cameras. The show differs from other prank television programs in that the stars of Impractical Jokers do not know the details of the prank until the moment they are performing it on strangers. While one cast-member performs the prank, the other three comedians in the troupe are behind the scenes feeding lines to their friend via microphone (with an earpiece). The lines fed to the prankster are meant to create a humorous and awkward exchange between the prankster and the stranger being pranked.

Some of my favourite pranks that I’ve seen recently are:

  • consequences of Murr ramming a toy car into someone’s feet and not apologising
  • Joe’s pet shop shenanigans

So in every episode there’s a number of challenges and whichever prankster has the highest number of fails is that episodes loser. And the loser has to suffer “punishment”! Some of the punishments have been hilarious! My top 3 are:

(Warning – spoiler alert!)

1) The hair-dos (or hair don’ts

This was a four way tie and all four had to suffer punishment!

2) Sal’s mobile in the rubbish

What you should know is that Sal is a bit OCD when it comes to hygiene. And this punishment is just cruel! Almost as cruel as putting his keys in elephant poo! Poor Sal!

3) Joe’s belly dancing!

What can I say?! Maybe not time to give up the day job but hey at least he made a couple of dollars! Sorry about the quality but couldn’t find a better video on YouTube.
