We don’t buy any newspapers at home so one of the main disadvantages of not being at work is the fact that I don’t read the newspapers. I can get any of the national newspapers here but I never read them. Most of them are rather trashy anyway. I miss my local paper though! I live 20 miles from where I work so there’s a different local paper there than there is at home. Also there’s another local paper in my hometown which I no longer get to see.

However my mam has been picking up the local papers for me (she buys them for herself then passes them to me when she’s done). Here’s some tidbits I found interesting!

I’m into recycling! I try to recycle as much as I can. It drives me potty when I see my hubby throw recyclable stuff in the bin!

Fizzy Drinks

So apparently drinking one can of fizzy drink a day can cause heart problems. This is bad news for me as I drink at least one can a day! When I was working I would have a can with my sandwich at lunch and then another with dinner in the evening. I’ve cut down to one a day now though although occasionally will have two cans when I have a Chinese! So I may be stuffed! But I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t smoke so lemonade (and Chinese takeaway) are my vices!

From Chinese takeaway to fish and chips! We used to visit this chip shop all the time when I was younger. I used to go out for the day with my Dad and Taid and we would stop here on the way home as it was Taid’s favourite place to eat! Glad to see that they’re thriving!

Lee Mack

I spotted this small bit which I thought was sad. I like Lee Mack and it’s sad that his brother passed away.

Win A Wedding

I saw this spread in the paper – it’s where we got married (and where we spent Valentine’s Day)! Shame this competition wasn’t on when we got married in 2012! Although I can’t complain, we did get a discount because we were both ex-students!

In the Saturday paper they always have adverts for holidays. We’re not going on holidays this year but we are going to Silverstone for the weekend – I’m sure I’ll discuss this in more detail in a few weeks! However I can still browse the holidays on offer. I quite fancied this one! I would like to go back to Tenerife. I think Little Miss would like it.

I don’t normally ask questions at the end of my blog entries (because I don’t have an audience) but here’s a try! What interesting stuff have you seen in the paper recently?

How sweet of your mam to bring you the paper after she’s finished with it 🙂

I too am big on recycling and cringe when someone throws something recyclable away. Our company doesn’t recycle so I bring stuff home to recycle. I mean, it’s not hard to do and only takes an extra minute of effort. Why wouldn’t people try to recycle more?!

I too drink a soda (fizzy drink) almost every day…I know it’s bad for us, and I’ve cut down, but it tastes so good! Hopefully I do other things to help out my heart to counteract it!

That win a dream wedding sounds awesome, who ever wins will be a very lucky couple! My friend won a wedding a few years ago (her husband was a soldier) and while it was paid, she didn’t have much say in it. The venue was picked, photographer, number of people allowed, caterer etc. While it took the hassle off of her, and they did a phenomenal job, it didn’t allow her to put her own touch on things. But I would choose that over paying for one any day 🙂

I loved reading the paper back home but the local paper here is rather bland, so I dont want to waste the money. The plus side is that I can read my local paper online but it’s not the same as flipping pages, etc 🙂 My favorite articles are the ones related to crimes (I wanted to be a police officer/homicide detective). The psychological standpoint is what interests me, how could someone do that to another person?

Also, I too sometimes don’t like asking questions because I’m afraid no one will comment but you have a loyal reader here 🙂

Yeah our company doesn’t recycle either. I’ll take all my recyclable stuff home to our collection. I was going to suggest that I would take charge of recycling at work but it would be so much effort on my part. Not that I’m lazy it’s just that I know other people in the office wouldn’t clean out their cans/tins etc before putting them in the bin.

My thoughts are the same as yours regarding fizzy drinks (or sodas) – I don’t drink or smoke so I think a can of fizzy lemonade can’t be bad!

I’ve never thought about reading my local paper online – like you say, it’s not the same as flicking pages. I find that I’m more likely to read the adverts in print than online.

That’s so cool that you wanted to be a police officer or detective. I don’t get it either – why would anyone want to hurt anyone else?

You’re last comment ,made my day – thank you!!

Too funny, that’s the only reason I haven’t brought it up with my company. I know it’ll be a bigger hassle for me and I’ll end up spending time cleaning up everyone else’s mess. At least we’re doing OUR part, right?!

I actually don’t like reading it online, it’s not organized very well but it’s my only option right now. I would much rather have that black ink all over my hands and flip through articles. I’m old school, apparently.

Aw I’m so glad, I love your blog 🙂

It’s surprising how many full grown adults in our office who can’t clean up! But hey we try eh?

Germany is mad on recycling! We have 3 different bins in our yard – one for recyclables (except glass), one for food waste and one for the rest. And we’re supposed to be getting separate paper bins next year as well… no idea how they’re going to find space for that! Glass has to be taken to a glass bin and a lot of plastic bottles and most tins you pay a deposit for, so they go back to the shop for you to get your money back. Oh, and glass beer bottles, too. It’s only wine bottles and some glass jars that have to go to the glass bins. I think it’s fabulous that they do so much for the environment, but all the different bins does get confusing sometimes, especially since there’s a slightly different system in the town I work in!

We have 4 different bins – a general rubbish, garden waste, food waste and then recyclable waste. But German system sounds so confusing!! Bin day is fun in your house!
