Every year on May Day bank holiday there’s a Victorian Extravaganza in Llandudno. The high street is closed off and there are rides, stalls and entertainment put up instead. The place will be full of people in Victorian period costumes as Llandudno developed into a popular tourist attraction during the Victorian era. The Transport Festival also takes place during the weekend however didn’t visit this festival this year. Here’s some photos of the day. (Image heavy under the cut)
The little girl is Alice from Alice in Wonderland. The guy who wrote the book used to visit the town and it is said that Alice was based on a local girl. (I don’t know why Sherlock Holmes is there though!)
The band started the parade by playing the Welsh anthem
Little Miss didn’t like the bagpipes these guys had!
More Victorian costumes
We had to cover Little Miss’ ears as they walked past!
Dogs pulling small Victorian style carriages
I have to get Gemma one of these so she can pull Little Miss around.
Traction engines (like Trevor in Thomas The Tank!)
Traction engines – Little Miss didn’t like it when they whistled!
Talk about smoke!
I’m pretty sure this bus still does the Great Orme round trip
Or it could be this one!
There’s a new chocolate/cake shop in town. It’s been open for 5 months and I didn’t even know!
Grrr – angry choccies!
One of the many rides along the High Street. Hubby point blank refused to go on it!
There were lots of these stalls along the high street
A waltzer! I loved this ride as a kid!
Hubby in front of the swings. There’s a photo of me on these swings as a kid!
A helter skelter! I’ve learned not to go on this as you get proper friction burns on the way down!
Victorian style rifle range
A traditional carousel
I’ve always found these to be creepy!!
