Adventure tourism and getting outside is all the rage at the moment. Wales and North Wales specifically can’t be beat! What with all the wonderful mountains and lakes you have here. In an effort to make the most of it, one our recent outings was to Ropeworks Active in Llanberis.

The Ropeworks Active headquarters is at Padarn Country Park in Llanberis. The most perfect location in my opinion – right next to the lake and next door to the Amgueddfa Lechi/Slate Museum.

Activities

There’s a number of activities available at Ropeworks Active:

  • Gorge Scramble
  • Climbing
  • Coaststeering
  • Caving
  • Hill walking and Scrambling

Not only that, they also offer group bookings, parties, an after school club and a holiday club.

Low Ropes Course

Little Miss and I waiting to go on the Big Swing

A few weeks ago on a beautiful Autumn day, we took the girls to Ropeworks Active to try it out. After getting strapped into the harnesses we were taken onto the Low Ropes Course. The brilliant instructor showed us how to use the course. All four of us went on it as the girls wouldn’t go on their own.

The Low Ropes course is, as the name suggests, not very high off the ground. It’s aimed for kids aged 3 to 8 but don’t be fooled, it’s still a workout for us unfit adults as well! The course has balance beams, tightrope sections, netwalk section, a tunnel, rope bridge and a swing.

We had such good fun on the course and I’m so proud to say that the eldest absolutely loved it! Little one not so much but I think she’s still a little too small for it. Give her another 6 months and she’ll be, as we say in Welsh, “rél boi”. I didn’t help I’m sure as when I lost my footing I took her down with me! Poor girl!

The Big Swing

As I say, the eldest loved it so much that she wanted to go back again the next day! I took her back about a week or so ago. She raced around the Low Ropes course all on her own. She’s quickly become an expert at it. As she was going around, the instructor asked if we wanted to try out the Big Swing. And by big, I mean big!

I wasn’t sure if Little Miss would want to but she decided she wanted to give it a go. The instructor strapped us in and we were raised to the top of the structure. From there, above the trees, we could see the lake and Llanberis village. After a little countdown, we were let go and what a thrill! The initial sense of falling did scare us both a little but Little Miss soon started to enjoy it and can’t wait to try it out again! I’m so proud of her for doing it! My brave girl!

I’ve yet to taste all that Ropeworks have on offer but I’m hoping to do so soon!

Have you ever been to Ropeworks Active?
