Well hello October! As soon as it hits October 1st, my mind turns to Halloween events. So I’ve been looking up some fab Halloween events in Snowdonia for you.
1) Rheilffordd Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway
The ever popular Ghost Train comes to life at the Welsh Highland Railway on October 30th & 31st. Take a ride on their special Halloween Train which runs from Caernarfon to Porthmadog. It looks like such a fun event if last year’s video is anything to go by. Book your ticket today!
2) Amgueddfa Llechi Cymru / National Slate Museum
One of my favourite places is holding a Halloween Trail during half term (October 28th-31st). We went to it last year and had a fab time. The girls really enjoyed all the activities including the arts and crafts. Who am I kidding? I enjoyed decorating the slate coasters and still have them around the house now.
3) Gelli Gyffwrdd / Greenwood
Spookwood is back for 2019! The event takes place October 19th to November 3rd and there’s so much going on. Create your own lanterns, masks, creatures or even your own broomstick. Facepainting will be available to turn your little ones into mini monsters but watch out for witches in the woods. At the Forest Theatre there will be daily Halloween shows which will be amazing I’m sure. Have a go at the Monster Hunt to win a prize. Not only that but new for 2019 is the Magical Lantern Forest Parade on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th. Sounds like super fun and no doubt me and my mini monsters will be attending.
4) Rheilffordd Llyn Padarn Lake Railway
Always a favourite for us is Rheilffordd Llyn Padarn. This year we attended Super Hero Week where the girls dressed up as their favourite superhero and got to ride for free! Between October 27-31st the Halloween Hunt returns – ride the railway and make a note of all the the spirits and spooks that you see along the train journey.
5) Zipworld Fforest
Zipworld’s Ffear Fforest is back during the week October 25th-31st. Creepy goings on around the tree top nets- look out for the clowns! I’ll be honest, this one looks way too creepy for me but if you’re into scary stuff then this is the one for you. Over 9s only and pre-booking is advised.
6) Fron Goch Garden Centre
Our local garden centre has a Halloween Treasure Hunt happening everyday from October 25th to 31st. Join the spooky scavenger hunt around the plants and chill with a hot chocolate at Fron Goch’s award winning cafe.
7) Coed Y Brenin
Take a spooky walk through Coed Y Brenin woods, have some food in the cafe and take part in a fancy dress competition at Coed Y Brenin’s Halloween Party on October 31st. Or make some pumpkin lanterns with the kids at their Pumpkin Party on October 30th.
8) Talyllyn Railway
Yes another railway on the list (there’s a lot of them around here!) and it’s one I’ve never been on. I could remedy this by going to their Halloween Steam and Scream event taking place October 29th – 31st. Feasts, pumpkin lantern competition, a fancy dress competition and steam trains… what’s not to like?
9) Castell Harlech Castle
If you fancy something a bit different how about taking in the Barber Surgeon Show on October 31st? It’s a demonstration of medieval procedures and implements including real life vampires (leeches)! There’s also family fun by way of storytelling and face painting.
10) Castell Penrhyn Castle
There are some great events at NT properties this Halloween and Castell Penrhyn Castle is no exception. Ghost of Penrhyn Castle trail sounds like fun and scary… but there’s also face painting and puppet crafts. These are happening at various dates from October 20th to 31st.
To make the most of the Halloween events in Snowdonia I plan to take them on Rheilffordd Llyn Padarn to the Amgueddfa Llechi. Here’s hoping we have the same sort of weather as last year where we had beautiful sunshine and a fab day out in Llanberis.
Which Halloween events in Snowdonia do you plan to attend?
(If you have an upcoming Halloween event in Snowdonia then please let me know and I’d be more than happy to share over on Facebook)
You must be so excited to take the little ones to Halloween events. Are you going trick or treating?
Ah no unfortunately as the girls were away with Nain & Taid. But Emyr and I had a blast at a gig instead!
