A Look Back at 2018

Various images of us from the year including us with David & Donetta in Llandudno, my eldest walking through the snow during the BEast from the East, us at Mount Teide Tenerife, us ready to go trampolining at Bounce Below, my eldest at Ropeworks in Llanberis and a photo of Silverstone during the British GP

Wowie 2018 has been and gone already! Where did it go? I didn’t get a chance to look back at 2018 before the end of the year but here’s it is at last! So here’s a look back at 2018 – or the highlights reel so to speak!

1) Tenerife

Me and the husband at Mount Teide, Tenerife

Our annual family holiday in July took us back 10 years since our first visit. We stayed in the Gran Oasis Resort in Playa Las Americas. It was our first time there but we loved the place. Already booked to go back again next Summer. We spent 3 days in Siam Park, took a trip to Mount Teide and visited the town.

2) British Grand Prix

SIX years since our last trip to the British Grand Prix we were back again. This time there was no Mark Webber so we were rooting for Fernando Alonso – pretty pointless considering the bag if nails he was driving. But at least he finished 8th! Not as good as 2012 though (he came second to Mark Webber). After the race we stormed the track, stood underneath Hamilton as he greeted the fans and was in background shots of Sky F1, Channel 4 F1 coverage and we think Cannal+ coverage! Would you expect any less from us? Oh and psst there’s a video… you need to see it just for the Hamilton footage!

3) Liverpool

The Elizabethean/Jacobean giant puppets at Knowsley Safari Park

Two trips to Liverpool in one year! We went to see the Lost Castles and the Giants with Anca. The Lost Castles were fantastic – all made from cardboard. The Giants were also very good but of course it was terribly busy. We got to see Albert Dock and ducked into the museum but we want to take a trip back soon and see the sights properly.

4) Slate Mountain Wales Rally GB

The view from Slate Mountain Stage overlooking Llechwedd Slate Caverns and towards the old Gloddfa Ganol mine

My second outing to see the Wales Rally GB saw me going to Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog. It was great but shame about the fog…. although kinda expected in October in Blaenau Ffestiniog. But I got to see the fast cars zooming around Welsh Slate so I was pretty happy even if it was a bit wet. There’s also a video over on YouTube if you want to see some of the action.

5) Amgueddfa Lechi

Amgueddfa Lechi - the quarryment houses from Blaenau Ffestiniog

Been on a couple of trips to our favourite place – the Amgueddfa Lechi! I love it there and no doubt we’ll be back there early in the New Year. Hoping to repeat my rollerblading experience again.

6) Ropeworks

My Little Miss conquering the Low Ropes course - photo shows her on the course with the High Ropes tower in the background and the sun shining through the trees

We took the girls to Ropeworks for the first time this year. Big Miss loved it so much! She had a whale of a time! Little Miss not so much. On our second visit Big Miss and I braved the big swing! It was AWESOME!

7) Machynlleth Comedy Festival

Josh Widdicombe. the husband, me and Ed Gamble at Machynlleth Comedy Festival

Not sure how I didn’t know about Machynlleth Comedy Festival until this year! It’s a big comedy festival in Machynlleth (obviously) where all the big names come to try out their shows before the hit the road over the Summer. It’s like testing grounds for the Edinburgh Fringe. This year we were into Steve McNeil (as in Go 8Bit) so we hit all his shows. But we also caught a showcase where we saw Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Nish Kumar, James Acaster and Ed Gamble. We also stumbled into Josh Widdicombe, Mark Watson, Ed Gamble, Steve McNeil oh and Michael Sheen.

8) Snow Angels

My eldest in our snowy garden

We FINALLY got some decent snow and had a few snow days. So we went out to the garden to make some snowmen… not snow angels as we didn’t have appropriate clothing for that really. But the girls loved their first proper snow.

9) The League of Gentlemen

Four photos from The League of Gentlemen Live Again Tour - the gents on stage dressed as Tubbs, Edward and Hilary Briss / Me and he husband / the gents doing a scene at the Denton household / the TLOG logo

The League of Gentlemen were Live Again after a 20 year break! I went to see them in Leeds back in September. Oh my word it was the best! It was like they’d never been away.

10) Underground Trampolining

The husband and I wearing our hard hats as we prepare to go trampolining (underground!) at Bounce Below, Zipworld, Blaenau Ffestiniog

FINALLY managed to get myself to Bounce Below at Zipworld in Blaenau Ffestiniog. It was so awesome! You can find the video of it over on my YouTube channel.

11) Meeting Distant Friends

Me and the girls with David, Donetta and Corben on top of the Great Orme

By distant friends, I mean people who don’t live near me. After being online friends for a few years now, it was a great to have David and Donetta (and Corben) come visit! We had lovely weather so I could take them to see the castle and Llanberis lake. I also go the pleasure of visit their neck of the woods – a trip I’m planning on repeating soon!

So all in all 2018 was actually a pretty good year! How was 2018 for you?
