We were recently invited to try out Zipworld Quarry Karts to promote the Locals Loyalty discount for 2020. Let me give you some more information about the Quarry Karts.
Zipworld Quarry Karts
This is one of the newest adventures available at Zipworld. Quarry Karts is the UK’s only mountain cart adventure based at Penrhyn Quarry in Bethesda. The renovated ex-army trucks take you up to the top of the quarry – be warned it’s a bumpy ride! However take a look at the stunning view of Nant Ffrancon on your way up. Honestly you won’t find better views than here in Snowdonia.
At the top of the quarry your instructors take you through how to handle the quarry karts. Each kart is more like a trike – no peddles, no engine – powered purely by gravity and thankfully there’s brakes to slow you down should you need to. As I sat down in my trike all my childhood memories of me speeding down the hills of Blaenau Ffestiniog with the homemade trike my Dad made me. The instructors told us that to be careful on the corners and not to turn too quickly in case we toppled over – something I can fully vouch for after my childhood experiences!
Welsh Slate Track
The track itself is a 3km Welsh slate track and includes tunnels, chicances, banked edges, twists and turns. The world’s fastest zipline Velocity 2 zooms over to your left and the magnificent Nant Ffrancon to your right… not that you can take in the view during your descent. You’ll be too busy controlling the quarry kart!
The best bit for me was the tunnel! It’s the smallest section of the track but it takes you under the road and out to the other side. I would love to see more tunnel sections in future.
How Much Does It Cost?
Normal price is £39 per person which includes two runs down the mountain. However keep a lookout for special offers which include a “Llai’n Lleol/Local Loyalty” discount which gives people living in any LL postcode (and certain CH postcodes) a 50% discount on all Zipworld adventures. This discount pops up occasionally and is currently active up to April 3rd. It’s a fab discount and one I’ve made good use of in the past (in fact I’ve used it for all my Zipworld visits to date, including Titan and Slate Caverns last year).
