The Kelpies At NightAmazing 30 meter horse-heads made from galvanised steel. They were created in 2013 by artist Andy Scott. They commemorate the heavy horses that used to work the canals and are based on two real Clydesdale horses - Duke (the one looking down) and Baron (the one looking up).They’re amazing to see but look at their best when lit up at night… I waited around for dusk to fall to take these pictures. #TheKelpies #Kelpies #VisitFalkirk #VisitScotland #Falkirk #ForthAndClydeCanal #ScottishCanals

It’s been over 3 years since this weekend. It was that incredibly hot one in July 2022. The kids and I had a wonderful weekend in Tanygrisiau. A big nostalgia hit for me as it was exactly what I used to do as a kid. I long for days like this again!We went swimming in Dolrhedyn, watched trains in the garden and lunch at Caffi Llyn. There’s honestly nothing better than these sorts of days. Last weekend we had a trip on the Great Central Railway. No gala weekend but there were two steam locos out as well as the diesel railcar. On Saturday we escaped from North Wales and headed over the border to Liverpool (whilst everyone else headed our way to the beaches and mountains). Ended up having a good day - there was a breeze so it wasn’t too bad to be in the city. We didn’t have enough time to visit loads as kiddos wanted to hit the shops. So we had a quick mooch around the docks before having a peek at the Liverpool Museum. So here’s just some of the sights… the Pumphouse between Canning Dock and Albert Dock, (now an Inn), the old GWR warehouse, the infamous Liver Building and a zoomed in picture of one of the Liver birds at the top, and finally a big massive cruise ship! It was HUGE!(And seeing as we were in the Beatles’ hometown and it was sunny this song was appropriate)#Liverpool #AlbertDock #CanningDock #GWRWarehouse #PumpHouse #VisitLiverpool #VisitEngland #LiverBuilding #LiverBirds #TheBeatles

What a weekend! Marking 70 years of the Ffestiniog Railway with fantastic people. 📍El Galeón Andalucía, Landerne Pier, CaernarfonIt’s a historical accurate replica of a 16th century Spanish galleon. Built in 2009 it has sailed around the world and ended up here for a week. Who’d have thought it would visit Caernarfon! Tickets are £12 per adult, £6 per child or £30 for a family of 5.We went to visit it last night and it’s amazing! My darling Megs. Today we had to make the difficult decision to put her to sleep. She’d had her niggles for a while but yesterday evening her back legs gave way. A trip to the vet last night for emergency painkillers and as there was no improvement today we had to do what was necessary. Had she been a younger pup then maybe something could’ve been done. But my beautiful girl was 15 and had a long and happy life. We’d had so many adventures together - my little railway pup!She’s now reunited with Gemma. Nos da my little sausage!

Walked along the old Bangor-Caernarfon Line yesterday. Stopped at the old Ferodo factory to take some pictures. This factory employed over 1500 people and was a major employer in the town. In 2001 it became the site of one of the longest industrial actions in the UK. Workers went on strike for almost 3 years after the company (known as Friction Dynamics by then). The industrial action started December 2000 and only ending in 2008 after the case went to the Court of Appeal.Action arose after the company changed working conditions and worker rights without any form of consultation. Google “friction dynamics strike” and read the article that comes up from Institute of Employment Rights. It’s a fascinating read.There have been various plans to redevelop the site but nothing has happened and it remains derelict. This little scruff is getting on a bit (the dog not me… although it’s accurate to apply that statement to me as well!).She’s 15 and is starting to have some problems. On Saturday she had a fit - this is the third one in the space of 12 months. She recovers fine so we’re trying not to worry about it. Long story!Anyway here she is, our little Megs! She walked 1.5milea around Llanberis yesterday and wanted to go for a dip at Ceunant Mawr. It's been a year since we lost this little squish. Oh my Gemma you were a beautiful dog... yes annoying but so snuggly! She was so loved and we really do miss her. Her cuddles were just the best!She had a tough couple of years at the end with her diabetes. We tried our best with her but it went wrong at the end. I'm still ever so grateful to the folks at @cibynvetclinic for looking after her.We miss you baby Gemma!
