Father’s Day Gift Guide – For the Adventurous Dad

It’s Father’s Day here in the UK quite soon which means I need to start looking at getting something for the husband from the girls. This year I’m tempted to go more adventure themed than the usual “best dad” theme. So let me run through some of ideas for Father’s Day gifts for the adventurous Dad.

Caving with Go Below

Top of the list has to be going caving in some old mines here in Snowdonia. Go Below offer 4 different caving adventures seeing you trek underground, zip along underground zipwires, boat along underground lakes…. sounds good right?

  1. Go Below Challenge – 5 hour underground adventure starting at the Conwy Fall Base. You will enter into the mines and boat accross beautiful underground blue lagoon before finding a zipwire to play on. The trip includes a waterfall climb which sounds fun!
  2. Hero Xtreme – 6 hour underground adventure starting at the Tanygrisiau Base. A slightly harder trek than the Go Below challenge, this will see you enter into the Cwmorthin mine. (If I was brave enough this is the one I’d love to do!)
  3. Ultimate Extreme – 7 hours underground adventure featuring the longest underground zipwire in the world! This one is tough!
  4. Mine To Mountain – 14 hour underground and overground adventure this one is BRAND NEW for 2018! You’ll go into the deepest slate mine (Cwmorthin) and go 1375 feet underground. After coming back up via different route your guide will take you up Snowdon! It’s insane!

Glamping Stays

A post shared by The Slate Caverns (@theslatecaverns) on

If you’ve done one of the Go Below treks you’ll need to unwind. So why not make a weekend of it and stay at one of the new glamping units at Llechwedd Slate Caverns. The glamping units overlook Blaenau Ffestiniog and are just lovely! OK sure I might be a tad biased as it’s my hometown but tell me you don’t agree?!

Cameras and Portable Power Bank

Now if I’m sending him on an adventure weekend he’s going to need my GoPro. The battery life on them are rubbish so he’ll definitely need a portable power bank. Varta have sent me this slimline unit to try out so I’m hoping it will get that GoPro charged ready for the adventures. Varta do many different types of powerbanks and batteries and can be bought from a variety of retailers including Amazon.

Are you an adventurous Dad? Do you agree with my suggestions?

  1. My husband would love the Caving with Go Below adventure, but I would be too afraid to try it. I’m not good with heights.

  2. I’m very tempted to try the easiest one! If he fancies doing it and would like someone to join him then I’d be up for that!
