Hickory’s Smokehouse Rhos On Sea

On Sunday we were kindly invited to have breakfast at Hickory’s Smokehouse Rhos On Sea. If you don’t know it, Hickory’s Smokehouse is an American style steakhouse in Rhos-On-Sea (there are others but this is our closest). On walking in the first thing you notice is that it’s all very American Country-themed. Then you notice the sign saying it’s an “authentic American steakhouse”. The decor is all bulls horns, red and wood panelled walls with photos of old style American scenes. Very nice and yes very American steakhouse – a comment I’m allowed to make since I have been to a real steakhouse in America.

Amazing Food

Oh the food at Hickory’s Smokehouse is AMAZING! And the breakfast we had on Sunday didn’t disappoint! Our party ordered pancakes for breakfast except for me who decided to trust Hickory’s completely with their Chicken Fried Waffle suggestion – Buttermilk fried chicken, waffle, streaky bacon & maple syrup. Sounds “interesting” but oh my word it was AMAZE-BALLS! (Yes I used the words amazeballs because it was soooo good). My mother in law had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup for the first time and was won over! The kids ate their pancakes (mostly – husband helped them out a bit). So all good on the food front!

Fun for Families

What I like about Hickory’s (other than the amazing food) is how child friendly the place is. They have a cinema room showing family films – on show whilst we were there was Coco and coming up during the day was our favourite – Sing. Good selection of films actually. In addition to the cinema room, there’s now an outside play area with a slide for the kiddiwinks, a ping pong table and Jenga for older kiddiwinks. Whilst the girls were up and down the slide, the husband and I had a game of Jenga. Oh it was intense! You’ll have to watch the video to find who wins!

Other small touches were the plastic knives and forks for the children, wet wipes and kitchen roll for spillages and sticky fingers, television showing CBeebies and personalised balloons made for happy children. Happy children = happy Mami & Dadi!

Smokin’ Deals 

Hickory’s Smokehouse have events happening every weekday from 5pm:

• Monday – Fajita Margarita! – choice of chicken or chargrilled vegetables with signature margarita
• Tuesday – Bottomless Ribs! – unlimited serving of baby back ribs
• Wednesday – Steak & Shake! – flame grilled 8oz steak and a shake
• Thursday – BBQ Blow Out – all of your barbeque favourites served with fries and slaw
• Friday – Live Music & Happy Hour – 2 for 1 cocktails and live music from 8pm

The Details

Our party included the husband, his mother, myself and the two girls. Our order came to approx £59 and we ordered the following:

• 2 x Hickory’s Pancake Stack (with bacon and maple syrup)
• 1 x Chicken Fried Waffle
• 2 x Children’s Pancake Stack
• 1 x Mississippi Mudpie Milkshake
• 1 x Mimosa
• 1 x Just Peachy Smoothie
• 2 x Fruit Shoots (for the girls)
• 2 x Decaff Coffees
• 2 x Pots of Tea

I had planned on having the Cinnamon Sugar-coated Churros as pudding but I was so stuffed after the Chicken Fried Waffle that I just couldn’t eat another bite!

All in all it was the perfect way to start the day. But we’re also really looking forward to visiting again soon to experience the outside dining in one of the little heated huts – having a proper smokehouse experience!
