The Wales Coastal Path is exactly that – a coastal path around Wales. You can walk all along the whole of Wales’ 870 mile coastline on this path. According to the official website, Wales is the first country in the world to have a dedicated coastal path that hugs the entire coastline. To be honest, it’s going to take us ages to walk all 870 miles of it but we’re up for a challenge! This section takes you from Red Wharf Bay to Benllech.
Red Wharf Bay
We’re only just starting our Wales Coastal Path journey and selected Red Wharf Bay as our random starting point. It’s approximately a 1.5 mile walk from Red Wharf Bay to Benllech and the Path takes you up and down the coast. We took a detour through the St David’s Caravan Park where the kids had a play at the park. If we didn’t have a picnic it would be perfect spot to stop as The Tavern restaurant is there.
2 Minute Beach Cleanup
From there we went to the beach where I did a 2min beach cleanup as inspired by the notice board in the beach. To be fair, I didn’t find that much – a plastic bottle and a banana peel. The crisp wrappers were ours in any case. Naturally we took these to the nearest bin.
Ropeswing Fun
From the beach we went back to the Coastal Path through the woods. Amongst the trees we found a rope swing. I was instantly transported back to my childhood where I spent my after school days swinging in rope swings in my hometown of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Who was I to deny them the simplest pleasure of swinging on a rope swing? The husband wasn’t keen at all and I think he lacks joy in his soul!!!
After following the path for a bit we arrived at Benllech where thankfully the ice cream shack was open.
Blackberry Picking
On the way back we collected blackberries and filled two pots. The girls love picking blackberries. Someone stopped to say how nice it was to see them getting back to nature. And it’s so true! It’s always the simplest things in life isn’t it?
Beach Days
The girls had a fantastic time playing on the beach. Sure it wasn’t the sunniest of days but it wasn’t terribly cold. So they ended up in the water and got absolutely drenched. But never mind! At the car we had blankets so we just stripped them and they were happy as Larry!
