Back in the day I had a lot of penpals… and I miss those days. The days of rushing home to see if Mr Postman had brought me a nice letter or two. Well on Sunday the 1st September 2018 it’s World Letter Writing Day and Viking have paired me up with a international penpal, and sent me lots of goodies to get started.
World Letter Writing Day
World Letter Writing Day is a relatively new thing. It was founded in 2014 by Richard Simpkin to encourage people to write letters rather than be immersed in the digital age.
I’ve found that taking time out to write a letter relaxes me as it frees me from the digital chaos in my life. It’s actually a really lovely hobby. Not only is it relaxing, but it also keeps my gossipy nature happy. I love chatting and pair that up with pretty paper and pens and oh heaven!
Pretty Stationery
So let’s take a look at what the lovely people at Viking sent me. In the box we had:
- Personalised paper
- Quill set with ink and nibs
- Mini stamper sets
- Envelopes
- Coloured pencils
- Fineliner pens – my fave!
- Washi tape
- Wax stamp kit
- International stamps
I’ve never seen anything so pretty! I tested out the mini stampers straight away! Also did a test of all the different pens. The quill will take some getting used to as I’m not used to writing with real ink. I do love the Staedtler Fineliners – they’re my favourite pens.
The Best Bit – Making Friends
The best bit of letter writing though, is making friends. I’m still friends with some of the penpals I had back in my teenage years although we’ve stopped exchanging letters now. But, that’s what’s so great about penpalling is that you can make lifelong friends. For Viking’s International PenPals campaign, I’ve been paired up with Roxanne who blogs over at Roxxy84.nl. Her blog is in Dutch but thanks to the power of Google I can read it in English. I’m really grateful to Roxanne for writing to me in English as I cannot speak a word of Dutch! But here’s to a longlasting friendship and who knows, I might pickup some Dutch whilst I’m at it.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up paper and a pen and get writing!
