A couple of weeks ago I took a trip down to Aberystwyth with the girls… specifically to try out the new burger restaurant aptly named Byrgyr.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Byrgyr<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Byrgyr is at a prime location in The Cambria building which is right opposite the Aberystwyth pier. If you manage to get a table by one of the tall windows then you have the view of Aberystwyth beach and the Irish Sea – not a bad view on a nice day. If you’re very lucky you’ll also be able to watch the amazing starling murmurations over Cardigan Bay.<\/p>\n

The place is owned by a group of 5 friends who’s aim is to create a dining spot which promotes not only the local produce but also the culture and language of Wales. to bring you the tastiest burgers made with locally sourced products – beef is from Rob Rottray a local butcher, bar is stocked with a number of local craft beers.<\/p>\n

Menu<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The menu has all sorts of burgers you can choose from – from a Welsh beef burger (supplied by local butcher Rob Rottray), to a surf a turf burger – you can find whatever you want. There’s also a kids menu with non-burger options as well. We opted for the Plumlumon burger for me (a Welsh lamb burger with mint mayo sauce), a simple plain beef burger for the eldest and some chicken strips and chips for the littlest.<\/p>\n

Taste Test<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My Plumlumon burger was served with chips and onion rings on a tray plate. I have to admit, it was the tastiest burger I’ve had in a while… I’m sorry but McDonald’s burgers don’t compare! What is even more amazing is that my eldest enjoyed her meal so much that she didn’t leave anything left on her plate. I’ll be honest, the littlest wasn’t keen on the chicken strips because they weren’t chicken nuggets* – she’s a picky eater! However I ate the chicken strips and they were lovely.<\/p>\n

(* I’ve been informed that the kids menu has been updated since our visit to include chicken nuggets)<\/p>\n

The menu is being updated with the new one being introduced on Monday. There’ll be more choice in the non-burger section with additional burgers being added. In fact TODAY<\/strong> there’s a brand new burger being launched – “Nawddsant” (Patron Saint) – a Welsh lamb burger topped with Welsh leeks and cheese, served with chips and houeslaw. The burger is being launched in honour of St David the Patron Saint of Wales who we celebrate on March 1st. It’s the one shown above and it looks absolutely delicious!<\/p>\n

Events<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The main reason we visited Byrgyr is because they had a meet and greet event with the Frozen characters. The girls were over the moon after meeting Anna, Elsa and Olaf! The princesses spent time at our table chatting with the girls. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.<\/p>\n

Dining with princesses isn’t the only event though – take advantage of watching the Six Nation matches at Byrgyr or head on over to their Facebook<\/a> page to keep up to date with all the events planned.<\/p>\n

One thing I almost forgot to mention was the doodles! The doodles around the place is absolutely fantastic! There’s doodles of little burger dudes everywhere and I love them! There’s a mural on the wall of burger dudes on Aberystwyth promenade which is ace! Also, there’s colouring in and crayons for the kiddiwinks.<\/p>\n

Byrgyr can be found at Y Cambria, on Aberystwyth promenade or alternatively, they also make deliveries – all you have to do is phone your order in (or place an order via Just Eat) and it will be delivered to your door.<\/p>\n
