{"id":6468,"date":"2016-04-08T22:28:48","date_gmt":"2016-04-08T21:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/becster.com\/?p=6468"},"modified":"2022-07-19T23:09:15","modified_gmt":"2022-07-19T22:09:15","slug":"baby-cpr-with-st-johns-ambulance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/becster.com\/cy\/baby-cpr-with-st-johns-ambulance\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby CPR with St Johns Ambulance\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6477\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohns.jpg\" alt=\"St John's\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohns.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohns-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Research conducted by OnePoll on behalf of St John Ambulance of 2000 parents with 0-16 years olds in the UK, December 2015 showed that only one in four parents would know what to do if the worst happens.\u00a0Honestly, if truth be told I&#8217;m not one of those parents who would know what to do.<\/p>\n<p>New research by the charity shows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"476.2666800544032\">An unconscious and not breathing child is the most frightening scenario for three out of four parents (74%)<\/li>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"476.2666800544032\">Yet only one in four parents (26%) would know how to correctly administer baby CPR<\/li>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"476.2666800544032\">Most parents who know first aid (62%) learnt it through a workplace first aid course yet baby CPR is different to adult CPR (for instance, you need to cover the baby\u2019s nose and mouth when doing puffs, and you use two fingers to give pumps to the chest).<\/li>\n<li data-canvas-width=\"476.2666800544032\">Only one in four (26%) parents have learnt first aid specifically for babies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With this in mind, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sja.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St Johns Ambulance<\/a> have teamed up with Nursery Rhymes Inc to educate parents in some baby CPR which will undoubtedly save a life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6475\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohn.jpg\" alt=\"St John's Ambulance - Nursery Rhymes Inc\" width=\"600\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohn.jpg 832w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohn-300x116.jpg 300w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/stjohn-768x296.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The campaign features everyone\u2019s favourite nursery rhyme characters who\u2019ve come\u00a0together to create a memorable rhyme to explain the technique. Incy Wincy Spider, Humpty\u00a0Dumpty, Jack &amp; Jill, and the Cat &amp; the Fiddle will be appearing in a TV ad struggling to write\u00a0the rhyme\u00a0though they have more luck in the longer online version, which promises to\u00a0make baby CPR truly unforgettable in just two minutes with a catchy song.<\/p>\n<p>The video below explains what to do but what you need to do is:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Call 999<\/strong> (or your equivalent of emergenacy services)<br \/>\nIf you&#8217;re on your own, you need to give one minute&#8217;s worth of CPR before you call for help, taking your baby with you.<\/li>\n<li><strong>5 Puffs<\/strong><br \/>\nPut your lips around their mouth and nose and blow steadily for up to one second. Give 5 puff sin total.<\/li>\n<li><strong>30 Pumps<\/strong><br \/>\nUsing two fingers in the centre of the chest, give 30 pumps at a rate of 100-120 per minute.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Repeat<\/strong><br \/>\nBut 2 puffs and 30 pumps until help arrives<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gc1kR8ZQxQ4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=cy&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Nursery Rhymes Inc.\u00a0follows on from last year\u2019s award winning\u00a0The Chokeables, which\u00a0taught parents how to help a choking baby and is credited with saving the lives of 46 children\u00a0since its launch. The video, which has had over 10 million views online, forms part of the\u00a0charity\u2019s\u00a0vision that everyone should know first aid. And if that wasn&#8217;t enough, The Chokeables featured the voices of some top celebrities &#8211; Johnny Vegas, David Walliams, David Mitchell and Sir John Hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Sue Killen, CEO at St John Ambulance, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Chokeables was a real step forward for us and the response was amazing. We&#8217;ve listened to parents and we know that they want to learn first aid skills in a way that&#8217;s easy and memorable. That&#8217;s what inspired us to create Nuresery Rhymes Inc. We know that a major barrier to parents learning is that baby CPR frightens them, so we&#8217;ve removed the fear factor and made it reassuring and as easy as possible to learn. We hope the song will stick in everyone&#8217;s heads!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The people over at St Johns Ambulance are currently offering a baby CPR course for \u00a330 for parents, carers and parent-to-be.
