Let&#8217;s start off with&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>My Love Of Slate<\/h2>\n<p>If you know me at all then you&#8217;ll know I&#8217;m from a slate mining town and so I love my Welsh slate. It&#8217;s been there for years and I&#8217;m ashamed to say that it took me until this year to finally visit! Before I mention our visit I&#8217;ll give you some background about the slate works, well actually I will let John Lloyd the managing director of Inigo Jones give you some background&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3vwaorBQfbc?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=cy&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>We decided to visit one sunny afternoon in June because I had said to hubby that I NEEDED to visit to show him some fabulous products &#8211; or in other words to possibly give him some Christmas\/Birthday gift ideas. The Jigsaw Coasters I shared above are just one product that I think I need in my life!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway I digress&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6795\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3498.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3498.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3498-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3498-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3498-1024x512.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tour<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We headed in and paid for two adult tickets for the self-guided tour (kiddos were free!), got given the headsets and instruction and were pointed towards the opening video presentation. The short presentation needs a bit of an update I think because it talks about the quarrying at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aberllefenni_Slate_Quarry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aberllefenni<\/a> but that quarry has closed since 2003. But even so, it was still a good video showing how the slate was extracted from the mines.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6790\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3492.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3492.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3492-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3492-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the video you are instructed to put the headphones on and follow the instructions given on the recording. The first exhibits are contained in this shed and has numerous times of interest including old tools used in mining, various slate from around the world detailing the different colours. There&#8217;s also details of how slate is formed.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6796\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3499.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3499.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3499-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Old Railway Siding<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Next stop was the old railway siding which is near Lon Eifion. There&#8217;s a lot of excess slate everywhere and an old crane. The tour explained that no piece of slate is ever thrown away as something can be made even from the smallest piece &#8211; hence all the slate bits everywhere!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6793\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3493.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3493.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3493-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3493-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Moving on from the Lon Eifion stop you are taken into the old workshops where there&#8217;s a plethora\u00a0of old machines. The tour also explained how there used to be\u00a0an old water wheel in there generating electricity and how it was\u00a0replaced by a generator when a local double decker bus crashed into the pipes carrying the water over the road.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6797\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3500.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3500.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3500-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the workshops you&#8217;re directed towards the next building where there&#8217;s a beautiful slate fireplace. What&#8217;s quite gutting to me is that I&#8217;ve found out after putting in new stud walling that there&#8217;s a slate fireplace in our house!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6794\" src=\"http:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3494.jpg\" alt=\"Inigo Jones Slateworks\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3494.jpg 600w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3494-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/becster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_3494-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Upstairs in this building is the old style classroom &#8211; this is the only bit we couldn&#8217;t take a pram to. Along the walls and in the display boxes you have the history of communication. Fascinating little display. Oh and also you have the chance to try some engraving. As mentioned, you can\u00a0take the pram around everywhere other than upstairs to the classroom. There&#8217;s plenty of parking space and a cafe on location.
