Films to get Excited About in 2020

Films to Get Excited About in 2020

Both the husband and I have always loved going to the cinema and thanks to our Prima Membership at Galeri, we’ve given the girls the cinema bug. It’s on of our favourite family past time. And this year, there are so many great films coming out in the near future that I can’t wait to see. Most of them are also family friendly which is great as I can take the girls with us.

Jungle Cruise

Another Disney film which stars two of my current favourite actors, Jungle Cruise sees Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt venture through the jungle in search for a supernatural tree. Ok, I’m not quite sure of the story but from the trailer and cast, I don’t think Disney will disappoint.

Doolittle

In my opinion, Robert Downey Jr can’t do no wrong on the silver screen and this film looks like no exception. Supported by a star studded cast including reuniting with Tom Holland (yes!!) we follow the incredible story of Dr Doolittle a physician who can speak to animals. Looks like a good one and it’s even better since part of it was filmed right here in North Wales – see if you can spot the Menai Bridge in the trailer. Also, we still haven’t decided if he has a Welsh accent or not.. what do you think?

Trolls World Tour

I love these weird little singing and dancing creatures! The first film was amazing and you really can’t go wrong with Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.

In this film the Trolls find out that there are 6 different Troll Tribes – each representing a different music genre. When the Rocker Trolls set out to destroy all other tribes, Poppy and Branch step in to save the day. Will they succeed? The music is going to be fabulous!

My Spy

A spy movie which is family friendly is ok by me. Even better it stars Dave Bautista as a CIA Operative who’s cover is almost blown when 9 year old Sophie finds him spying on her family. She cuts him a deal – teach her how to become a spy or have your cover blown. Naturally this will end up in chaos so it promises to be a great family film.

Sonic the Hedgehog

As a child I was a Sonic girl so I’m so excited for this film! Admittedly when they released the first trailer for this film the whole fandom were up in arms – ugh that weird hairy Sonic was just NO! Thankfully the movie studios listened and the new version brings back the super speedy shiny Sonic that we all know and love.

As with any Sonic game, the premise is that Sonic must stop Dr Eggman from world domination. Sure to be a good one especially since Jim Carey has been cast as the baddie. He has the ability to be wonderfully crazy – think back to his performance as the Riddler in the Batman films.

Ghostbusters:Afterlife

I half watched the latest Ghostbusters film and for me it was a big fat NOPE! You just cannot compare it to classics. I’m willing to forgive it if Ghostbusters:Afterlife redeems the franchise. I must admit it’s very promising… it directly follows the original two films so not another spin off so officially makes it a sequel. It’s rumoured that the family which the film focuses on is Egon’s family which would be a lovely tribute to the late Harold Ramis. The other 3 Ghostbusters are set to return as is Janine Melnitz and Dana Barratt. Paul Rudd is confirmed to be starring in it and ANY film with him in is a big thumbs up from me. Also, if the video posted by IMDB is true, then a Rick Moranis cameo would be AH-MAH-ZING!! Do you know what, this might be the film I’m most excited about.

Honourable Mentions

  • Birds of Prey – Not a family friendly film but I really want to see Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn has to be the best thing to come out of that weird Suicide Squad movie (still unsure if I liked it or not!).
  • Wonder Woman 1984 – Another film that isn’t really family friendly is Wonder Woman 1984. I’m more of a Marvel girl that DC Comics but I did enjoy Wonder Woman. Also Chris Pine is making a comeback for the sequel.

Are there any films I’ve missed off? Which films are you excited to see?
