#Ad – Creating My Kitchen Gallery Wall

(This post contains links where I have received payment as marked by **)

Last year we had our kitchen re-done. Walls were knocked down, new units were put in, new floor etc… it’s beautiful! Despite living in it for a whole year it’s still missing one key feature to make it our own… our* gallery wall! After extensive research on Pinterest, here’s how I’m intending to create my kitchen gallery wall.

(* I say “our” I mean mine… he’s not getting much choice in what I’m putting up there!)

Gather Your Decorations

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love steam trains and naturally my gallery wall will feature steam trains! I’ve already found some bits and bobs to put up there:

  • plaques detailing the end of the line of the Ff&WHR (A470 Blaenau Ffestiniog and A487 Caernarfon)
  • a barometer which is slightly damaged which has come from Taid’s house (my childhood home)
  • Welsh sheep A4 print (although needs to be put in a frame)
  • slate artwork with a Welsh phrase “Braf yw teithio’r byd, ond brafiach yw dod gartref” (translates to “It’s nice to travel the world but even nicer to come home”)

In addition to these I also want a few small shelves to put some nice potted plants and twinkly lights up.

Decide on Layout

Now this is tricky because you don’t want to attach your items until you’ve decided on a layout. But how do you decide on a layout unless you can put them on the wall? Well here comes the clever part, trace outlines of your items onto paper and stick to the wall with Blu Tack.

Add to the Gallery

After playing around for a while I settled on a layout but the wall still looks bare. After listening to a few Welsh songs I’ve found a few lyrics that I’ve decided to place on the wall. My calligraphy skills are not up to scratch so instead I’m going to have to find some fancy fonts to create them, for example there some really nice fancy ones at Font Bundles (some are free fonts** but I might fork out to get some fancier script fonts**)

The quotes I aim to put on canvas are in keeping with my Blaenau Ffestiniog theme as they come from a song entitled Cwmorthin by Mim Twm Llai:

Tra bod hiraeth yn fy mron
A’i nol i Gwmorthin,
Lle mae’n enw i wedi’i grafu,
Ar lechan las.

I think it would make a nice addition to my gallery wall. I’m undecided on which font to choose though as I want it to be a bit fancy but also in keeping with my other items.

I’m also thinking I need some artwork showcasing some of the Ffestiniog Railway’s engines. Currently trying to decide on whether to put some old photos from my collection up, or to buy a piece from the their shop.

Finalise The Design

There’s always one thing I feel you need in a kitchen and that’s a clock. I really want a clock that looks like a station clock however I’m finding it difficult to find it. I’ve seen a few that could work but I’ll bide my time and keep looking at EBay in case something crops up.

Even though my husband has now learnt how to put shelves up, I’m still not quite ready to put everything in place just yet so you’ll have to wait to see the finished product I’m afraid!

Have you got a gallery wall? Any tips you might suggest before I finally fix everything in place?
