Surely 2021 can’t be worse than 2020? Granted, it’s not starting off in a promising fashion what with yet another lockdown and the world going crazy. But there are glimmers of hope… there’s a Covid vaccine (three at the time of writing), there’s talk about kids getting back to school in a few weeks and BoJo(*) is hopeful for a “normal-ish” Summer.
(* Boris Johnson, the UK Prime Minister)
So let’s not write 2021 off just yet and have a think about what we can hopefully look forward to. Here’s my list of things to look forward to in 2021
Sunny Weather
In a little under 3 weeks it will be March and Spring will be here! That has to be good! Possibility of warmer weather, longer evenings and nature waking up*. Puts a spring** in your step that’s for sure.
(* I have already spotted lambs prancing around the fields and my daffodils are growing!
** Sorry for the pun but I make myself giggle!)
May Holiday
I’m hopeful that our May holiday will happen. We completely cancelled the Florida trip that was rescheduled to this May. As nice as Florida would be, I’m not happy to be flying in a tincan with a possible infectious people to be honest. There’s a plenty of places to see in the UK! Instead we have a week down in Gloucestershire and a week in Centre Parcs on the horizon.
Days Out
Oh to have a day out!! Current restrictions in Wales mean that we aren’t allowed to travel unless it’s for an essential journey (work/groceries/medical) and any exercise must start from home. So I am currently unable to drive to Llanberis to take a walk around the lake. I’m missing simple pleasures like that. Or to go to Llandudno! The girls are also desperate to go out to do something. Can’t wait until we can take them to somewhere like Piggery Pottery or Ropeworks Active. For me, I want to get back to the National Slate Museum. I also want to get to visit Llechwedd properly.
Eating Out
Husband is really missing Pizza Hut! I’m really missing scrambled eggs at Gwalia! And we’re all missing a Sunday carvery – our favourite is either Celtic Royal in Caernarfon or The Bull in Pentraeth/Benllech. We haven’t been out for a Sunday meal since 8th March 2020! I’m also looking forward to another visit to Byrgyr which is long overdue!
Meeting Friends
Due to Covid I haven’t seen a few friends for quite some time. I miss being able to drive and meetup with them. Simple pleasures like having tea and cake will be absolute bliss!
Train Trips
Last but by no means least, I’m looking forward to the return of steam trains! I can’t think of anything better than seeing my lovely Ffestiniog Railway engines tootling along the line to Blaenau Ffestiniog. When the trains return you know I’ll be there! Honestly can’t wait!
But we also have an epic train trip planned for September. The husband has got us tickets for a trip on Tornado & The Flying Scotsman! Such famous and iconic engines plus our first mainline steam powered journey. Something absolutely epic to look forward to!
So as you can see from my list, I’m really looking forward to simple pleasures. Pretty much, give me cake and some steam engines and I’m a happy lady!
