Running – EEK!

I may end up regretting this but I’ve signed up to do Race For Life next year with my boss!

Currently I’m not a runner. In actual fact I hardly ever never exercise and I do realise this is very, very bad! I decided i needed to start exercising and the only way to guarantee that I do it is to sign up to something.

I happened to be discussing health stuff with my boss and she said that she was going to sign us up to do Race for Life next year. My initial reaction was “Shit! How do I get out of this?!” because a) I’m lazy, b) so unfit it’s unbelievable ad I don’t want to look like a twat in front of my boss. After explaining to her that I look like such a twat running (think Phoebe in Friends), I had a think about it and decided to give it a go!

(This would be me running!!)

My boss advised me to download the Couch to 5K app to get me started. From what she explained, it seems to build up your running gradually which is good. She also advised me to get decent running shoes… not sure if my Skechers Shape Ups will do the job. Might have to get myself some lycra pants as well?!

What do you think? Reckon I can do it?

  1. Of course you can do it! Get those running shoes on and go! 😀
The couch to 5k app is great. 🙂 I actually like running – but it’s winter and too dark and cold and then.. well, I don’t like it haha.
    xx
    Sassy

  2. Yay! I did the Couch to 5k and LOVED it. If you download the podcast, it tells you everything- when to run, when to walk etc., and it really does help you build it up gradually. I found that when I got to weeks 3 and 4 (there’s 9 weeks in total) I felt like I could do a lot more than the programme was telling me to which can only be a good thing!

I’m looking forward to reading about your progress- YOU CAN DO IT! 🙂 xxx

  3. My boss said the same! About halfway through she wanted to go further than what the app did. Thanks for having faith in me!!

  4. Ahh the running shoes is the next problem I need to sort out! I’m going to start training after Chriatmas because it’s too miserable at the moment!

  5. I tried to do the couch to 5k but didn’t get beyond the first run – I am just so lazy!!

  6. Couch to 5k is fab. Take good running shoes and go for it. I had a 5k this year and it was hard, but I didn’t have time to prepare for it. Maybe you’ll change your mind about running, it can be fun. Good luck xx

  7. At least your thinking about it and I have heard good reviews kn the couch to 5k with success. Fair play for signing up and it gives you a goal to work towards X#PicknMix

  8. Yes, you definitely can do it! I have done 3/4 of Couch to 5K before (stopped due to injury) but I absolutely loved it and it….well, actually worked. Bearing in mind I’m lazy, never exercise and can barely walk up the stairs without getting out of breath. Race For Life is fun and such a great cause. Good luck & enjoy! #PicknMix

  9. Haha that’s my fear!!

  10. Yeah the shoes I need to sort out. I currently have a pair of Skechers Shape Ups and I’m not sure if they’re suitable for running x

  11. They are not for running. For working out and running I have Adidas and Asics, both are amazing. I can see the difference when I have them on.

  12. Thanks! As it turns out I can’t do the Race For Life as it’s the day we fly back from our holidays! But we’re planning on doing something else instead. Not sure what yet but I’m going to start training after Christmas! x

  13. Thanks for having faith in me! I fear I’m just too lazy! Lol! Unfortunately I can’t do the Race For Life as it;s the same day I fly back from holidays but we’ll sign up for something else instead x

  14. Thanks! My boss (Actually 2 of them) have some great running shoes and I’m waiting on them to give me the brand details. I don’t want to spend too much to start with just in case I don’t get into it. But I also don’t want to go too cheap because I need good shoes x

  15. If you have a look at an outlet that would be great, you can find some very cheap trainers. I got Asics at around £35 from an outlet in London.

  16. Good luck lovely, I’m sure you’ll be fine and ha I’ve always loved tat Pheobe running scene! Thanks for linking up to #PicknMix

    Stevie x

  17. Good luck hun, I used to love running and now hate it! Thanks for linking to #PickNMix I hope you had a lovely Christmas x
